Role Overview

 

Weaver Technical Corp. is seeking a motivated Junior-Intermediate Biologist/Technologist to join our growing Courtenay, BC office. We are looking for a candidate that is interested in bridging the gap between environmental assessment and project design and construction over a wide spectrum of development and industrial sectors.  Key areas of practice should relate to terrestrial, aquatic and/or marine habitats. Daily activities might include collecting field data in support of environmental assessments, developing protection plans, mapping, and implementing monitoring works.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conducting habitat assessments (fisheries/wildlife/vegetation)

  • Data entry and analysis

  • Composition of environmental assessment reports

  • GIS mapping and technical drawings

  • Development of mitigation and offsetting plans

  • Work with in-house project design and management team to develop low impact projects

  • Submission and coordination of permits, licences, and approvals with agencies and other governmental offices

  • Construction monitoring

 

Skills and Education

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in the field of Biology or Environmental Sciences

  • Completion of 1st year level university English or equivalent technical writing course

  • Future eligibility for professional designation (R.P.Bio., R.B.Tech., etc.)

  • Knowledge and ability to conduct aquatic, riparian, and terrestrial habitat assessments, water/air/soil quality sampling, and/or habitat compensation monitoring

  • Training in data collection/management/analysis

  • Experience in report composition and possess strong communication abilities

  • Experiences in GIS, ArcMap, or other mapping platforms is considered an asset

  • Ability to work in remote areas and/or in industrial work sites

  • Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated team of professionals

  • First Aid, Electrofishing, and/or CPESC certification would be considered an asset

  • Possession of a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence and personal vehicle

  • Possession of a SVOP or PCOC.
